Harness Info & FAQs
Common harness questions
Which harness style is right for my dog?
We offer 4 different harness styles: Verso, Vari-Fit, Houdini and the Adjustable Houdini.
For dogs who don't try to back out of their harness the Verso & Vari-fit harnesses are a great choice, but if your dog is nervous, flighty or an escape artist we recommend one of the Houdini styles.
The Vari-fit and Adjustable Houdini are highly adjustable, so ideal for growing dogs and dogs who are difficult to measure accurately. If your dog is fully grown and you are confident measuring then the Verso and Houdini offer more padding coverage and a lighter weight.
What are neck clips and do I need them?
Choosing the neck clips option will add 2 nylon clips at the top of the neck of the harness, these clips allow you to open the neck of the harness for dogs who don't like to put their head through a harness. They're also useful if you have a bully breed with a large head and smaller neck, to save needing to adjust the neck each use.
What size should I choose?
The size ranges given on for the sized adjustable harnesses refer to chest circumference, for most dogs this sizing will be accurate and no other measuring is needed. If your dog is between sizes we recommend choosing the larger size unless your dog is overweight and on a diet, sizing up allows room for a jumper or coat underneath and also gives a little extra length in the back.
Our standard sizes are:
Small - fits chest sizes 14-20", collar sizes 10-14"
Medium - fits chest sizes 18-25", collar sizes 12-16"
Large - fits chest sizes 22-34", collar sizes 14-20"
X-large - fits chest sizes 28-48", collar sizes 18-28"
For custom sizing please follow the measuring guides on the harness product pages.
Do I need the brass hardware?
Standard hardware will be fine for most dogs, but if your dog swims a lot or you live near a beach then we recommend upgrading to the brass hardware option.
